The FMCSA Opens Registration for the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse

FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

Drug and Alcohol Clearing House

It is official, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has opened registration for the drug and alcohol clearinghouse.

The FMCSA has created a secure database, called the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse,  that allows FMCSA  and others to identify commercial drivers who have violated drug and alcohol testing program requirements in real-time. Commercial driver’s license holders, fleets, medical review officers and substance abuse professionals can create an online account at

On January 6, 2020, as a motor carrier, you will be required to start using the clearinghouse.  As a result, motor carriers will be required to perform pre-employment checks. In addition, they will need to check current drivers at a minimum of once per year.  As a motor carrier you will also be required to report any failed tests drug test for.

Carriers will be charged a $1.25 transaction fee for each required query.

The VLocity Group drug consortium, VLG Consortium, is a registered Third Party Administrator and can with the motor carriers authorization perform all reporting and checks on the carrier’s behalf.  In addition, we are doing this at no additional charge regardless if you are a participant in our drug consortium.

VLocity Group will be releasing an updated Drug and Alcohol Policy to include needed sections on the Clearinghouse.  You can learn more about the VLG Consortium here.
